MODERATE VOICES UNHEARD
Ayaan Hirsi Ali asks (and then answers) a pertinent question about Iran's holocaust denial festival:
What's striking about Ahmadinejad's conference is the (silent) acquiescence of mainstream Muslims. I cannot help but wonder: Why is there no counter-conference in Riyadh, Cairo, Lahore, Khartoum or Jakarta condemning Ahmadinejad? Why are the 57 members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference silent on this?Could be.
Could the answer be as simple as it is horrifying: For generations, the leaders of these so-called Muslim countries have been spoon-feeding their populations a constant diet of propaganda similar to the one that generations of Germans (and other Europeans) were fed — that Jews are vermin and should be dealt with as such? In Europe, the logical conclusion was the Holocaust. If Ahmadinejad has his way, he shall not want for compliant Muslims ready to act on his wish.

I think the only possible conclusion is that most moderate Muslims are "sleepers".
My reasoning is as follows: All Muslims believe the Koran is the word of God. Accordingly, they cannot hold that some parts are wrong, vicious or unreasonable as that would indicate God was wrong, the Angel Gabriel muddled God's words when passing them to Mohammed or, Mohammed misinterpreted God's words. None of the preceding explanations is acceptable to a Muslim.
For the same reasons, I cannot see how the Koran can be "re-interpreted" to fit the 21st century. In other words, for as long as Muslims believe the Koran is the word of God, they will remain representatives of the seventh century.
I accept that not all Muslims spend Friday afternoons reading DIY manuals on knifework and explosive devices. Instead, I believe many are quite happy to let the jihadis follow the manuals on the grounds that when the jihadis prevail, the moderates will no longer need to be coy about their beliefs.
In the meantime, the staff of our multitudinous human rights and social justice organisations will ensure the marching, moaning, whining and special pleading of Muslims continues without interruption, as will the nonsense typified by the piece from the website of the Islamic Council of Victoria concerning Arab/Muslim involvement in terrorism.
Soon after the collapse of the USSR, B A Santamaria observed that the next enemy of the West would be Islam. Had he been alive to witness the recent activities of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) in its case against Catch the Fire Ministries Inc, I suspect he would have included VCAT in his observation.
