BILL OF RIGHTS ERODED

Some in Europe are worried about America's failing democracy:
Controversial parts of the US anti-terrorism law known as the Patriot Act are due to expire later this year, but US president George W. Bush is pushing for those rules to be made permanent despite concern by both Republicans and Democrats.

The Patriot Act, which erodes civil liberties through the lifting of certain rights guaranteed in the Bill of Rights, was passed soon after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington D.C.
