POLICE NOT TOLD OF FAULTY VESTS
The Queensland Labor government lists "enhancing community safety" as one of its priorities; the government "seeking significant improvements as a result of an enhanced focus this term". This focus on safety obviously doesn't extend to the Queensland police, however:
The Queensland Police Commissioner says no-one will be sacked over a decision not to tell officers their bullet-proof vests may be faulty.Cops might want to check if the bullets they've been given are real.
The Queensland Police Service will spend about $1 million replacing more than 1,000 bullet-proof vests.
ABC TV's Stateline program has revealed the results of firing range tests show the vests are 'degraded' and no longer work.
Commissioner Atkinson has defended the decision to keep faulty vests in use.
