Blinded by hatred for News Ltd, Crikey media expert Jeremy Sear blames The Australian for what he thinks is a poor choice of words, Jeremy's anti-News fanboyz piling on in comments:

Update According to Jeremy, News Ltd's David Penberthy's fondness for "béchamel-rich lasagne" damns him as an elite. This is, of course, silly considering that lasagna is an inexpensive dish, whereas Jeremy's typical meals – pricey lamb cutlets, duck breast, chocolate strawberries and the like – are fit for a king.

Doesn't Sear here remind you of the impertinent and down right rude behaviour of Michael Moore when he literally gate-crashed Charlton Heston's private residence, then took advantage of the old man's hospitality to try and score a cheap shot on gun control issues - which on a second viewing shows fasto Moore failed.

Jeremy doesn't seem to understand what the word "gaffe" means. He apparently thinks that it must be "comic", or that it by definition must have comedic implications. Not true.

I like the way that Fran struggles and fails to grasp the concept that while this is an annual reward, it can be for work at any time, not just the best work of the past 12 months.
I like the way anonymous above fails to grasp that criticizing the one paper that you first encounter a newswire story without realizing that the newspaper in question has likely little or no editorial control over it (but, but, he's a real journalist now) and, in any case, is correctly using the word, is itself a gaffe, and all the more funny for it.

Unless the Australian has sacked all its sub-editors, the paper still has the capacity to write its own headlines and to change wire copy, if it feels the need to do so. To suggest it had "no control" over either is idiotic.
