INNOCENTS ILLEGALLY DETAINED IN INDESCRIBABLE CONDITIONS

One detainee claims to have been held in a bare, water-less cell infested with vermin:

"The film Midnight Express is a mild version of what we are going through."

Just more of the same from Iraq, right? Nope:

Greece stands accused of victimising drivers of foreign-registered cars - hitting them with huge fines and confiscating their vehicles for no reason.

That is the essence of a resolution adopted in February by the European Parliament, on the basis of petitions by citizens of several EU countries.

It is estimated that 2,000 cars have been confiscated since 1983; with fines sometimes running into the hundreds of thousands of Euros, the Greeks have a nice little money spinner going here.
