Mike Carlton gets it right for once, and wrong as usual

The truth spoken as jest:
Dear Prime Minister, No doubt you will have seen this week's opinion poll from the Lowy Institute which suggests that Australians are concerned about the Americans and believe we are far too subservient to the dictates of US foreign policy.

Frankly, I was shocked. If they can be believed, the figures are terrifying. The poll found that 57 per cent of Australians were "very worried" or "fairly worried" about the external threat from both US foreign policy and Islamic extremism, and 68 per cent said Australia takes too much notice of the US in our foreign policy-making.

How is this pernicious anti-Americanism getting about? How could the great unwashed possibly equate George Bush with Osama bin Laden, for heaven's sake? I think a lot of the blame lies with the ABC and the hordes of irresponsible, left-wing commentators in the press who have been filling people's empty heads with this rubbish. Something must be done to stop them.
Inadvertently is the only way Carlton could ever get anything right.

Update: In the same column Carlton observes:
Thanks heavens Terri Schiavo is dead, released at last from her long 15 years in a "persistent vegetative state" in a Florida hospital.

The battle over her dying body was an obscene spectacle, tawdry and savage to the end, cynically manipulated for religious and political point-scoring all the way to the White House.

For this we can blame the rampant religious right in America, whose crusaders feel they have a sacred duty to force their ratty superstitions upon the rest of us.
Well Mike, I'm a right-wing atheist who wasn't swayed by ratty superstitions. The only reason you write pathetic shit like that above is to generate controversy in a cynical attempt to increase reader numbers.

Terri Schiavo might have had a flat-line EEG but she had a hell of a lot more going on between her ears than you do.
