MESSAGE SCULPTURE
The ABC News home page features a sidebar link to Articulate, its arts blog. Today Emma Rogers posted photos of sculptures from this year's Sculpture by the Sea exhibition (Bondi, 3-20 November) that caught her eye. Rather than leave it to viewers to find meaning in the two works below, Ms Rogers felt obliged to elaborate:

Peter Adams eases out from underneath A Star Bangled Spanner after installing it on a cliff near Bondi Beach. Adams says his artwork, made of timber, fibreglass, resin, steel and wood, represents the United States' meddling in world affairs, causing unrest to continue, like a 'spanner in the works'.
A jogger does push ups on a rock in front of Refuge, by New Zealand-born Denise Hume, which, the photo notes tell me, a response to the refugee situation in Australia.The Sculpture by the Sea home page also includes photos with titles – from the 2004 exhibition – but omits the political commentary.
