Sea Shepherd's real goal? Publicity for Paul Watson

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) boldly claims to seek "to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans". In fact, SSCS is a promotional vehicle for founder Paul Watson in his relentless pursuit of fame.

The SSCS site lists multiple campaigns: whales, seals, sharks, dolphins and Galapagos Islands. Site searching SSCS using those terms produces the following results:

  • whales - 883

  • seals - 525

  • sharks - 208

  • dolphins - 262

  • Galapagos - 277

The total - 2,155. On the other hand, a site search using "Paul Watson" produces a whopping 10,400 results.

SSCS really should remove the whale as its symbol, replacing it with a likeness of their captain. And come to think of it SSCS doesn't really seem to accomplish much. They do go charging around the high seas burning lots of atmosphere-polluting fossil fuels as self-appointed ocean police but there's precious little of note to put on their CVs other than  'rancid-butter-throwing-left-wing-attention-seeker'.
