Eligible flood payment recipients "low-lifes"

Treasurer Wayne Swan is unhappy that eligible flood-affected Queensland "millionaires" have "claimed emergency flood aid when they did not really need it."
"If there are people who have been eligible for the levy [payment] who haven't required it and have gone in and claimed it, I think they are simply low-life," he said.
Why shouldn't all eligible persons claim the payment?

I blame Rupert Murdoch.

Interesting. Now Crikey/PurePosions are back, but the PP Boyz have just deleted this thread and all of the comments on it:
http://blogs.crikey.com.au/purepoison/2011/01/31/open-thread-january-31-february-4/

Several of those comments were truly deranged, especially the ones from commenters "thirdborn314" and "Matthew of Canbera" on the topic of race, and why Bolt "the creationist" is so racist, and how Bolt's lack of moderators has something to do with the lawsuit against him and NewsLtd having had it up to "here" with paying for moderators for such a racist prick.

"Strange Days Indeed."

Maybe the grown-ups had to step in again.

Let me get this straight...

Swanny doesn't want some people to claim flood assistance when they're entitled to it.

And yet a few weeks ago he way saying insurance companies should cough up even when their policy holders are not entitled to it.

What the???

Swan never intended for all eligible persons to claim.

His intention was to cobble together a half-arse solution to a problem and expect people to do the right thing based on a set of loose guidelines.

It didn't go to his imagined plan and he got cranky because it made him look incompetent.

Par for the course with Labor in their first term, so 3 independents gave them a second term.

A good question to ask might be, "Why are all Labor programmes so ridiculously easy to rort?"

Pink batts, green loans, school halls. solar systems, heat-exchange systems, green audits, flood relief, and next surely will be the free airfares.

"Has any government been this easy to rip off?"

If you claim the flood-relief payments you are exempted from Gillard's flood levy. The government is creating "low-lifes".

The 60%+ of people who didn't have any insurance and claimed that big payout should be forced to put all that moeny towards insurance, for next time. Why the hell would anyone bother with insurance, ever, if the Government (your fellow taxpayers) are going to bail you out for free every time?
