Venezuela's creeping dictatorship

The corrupt and incompetent Chavez government hasn't delivered on populist promises of housing for all Venezuelans:
There is a shortage of two million homes in this South American country of nearly 29 million people, according to the Venezuelan Builders' Association.
So rather than do something constructive Chavez goes for the Robert Mugabe distract-the-masses-ploy by seizing private farms. The results parallel the Zimbabwe model:
The national farming union Fedenaga said it has already seen a drop from 70 percent to 45 percent in banana production in the region, and has predicted beef production will drop by 30 percent and dairy by four percent as the seizures continue.
The Guardian reports that Chavez has also urged the less fortunate to "occupy" the land of the better off, with the poor seizing the opportunity.

Chavez's socialist experiment will eventually end, as do all such social engineering projects, badly. Somewhat ironically, in the right margin of the article is an advert for the Guardian bookshop which unsurprisingly features Marxist historian Eric Hobsbawm's How to Change the World as the number one seller. The book, featuring on its cover the famous shot of Che, should really be titled How to Fuck the World.

Nicely put Mr Beck and timely warnings. I wasn’t aware Chavez had gone quite so far down this road. It is always a recipe for disaster when a government goes to war with the most productive sector of its society.

Stand by for even worse inflation in Venezuela, a run on the banks and the exodus of those who underpin what remaining prosperity they do have. How many times will we see this before charlatans and bully-boys like Chavez are seen for what they are.

Little wonder people with any intelligence, or even memory, groan when they see those pathetic Che T-shirts.

I hope that if Venezuela keeps going down this path, Australia offers visas to any of the educated &/or skilled Venezuelans who want nothing more of Chavez' socialist-Marxist tyranny.

Their religious and cultural background means they fit in pretty well with Anglos, and getting a few planeloads of hardworking men and women with their families, who have actually seen a Socialist (veering on Marxist) State in action and who have ideologically rejected it, would only be to Australia's benefit.

Problem is that Venezuela has oil and Chavez can rely on oil revenue to prop up his evil regime. So while he stuffs up the country he'll survive a lot longer than he otherwise would because of that natural resource.

That last comment by 'Dityo Ramadhani' is spam.

It sounds remarkably like underemployed Barrister Jeremy Sear's salutation at the end of his sock puppet post.

This, is funny. The PPBoyz are going insane waiting for Bolt to start accepting comments again. I hope he keeps comments off for another week or two, it is just driving the Pee Pees around the bend. LOL.

They have sunk to writing posts about Bolt asking "I wonder what the response would have been to this post had comments been open?"

Stay away another week Bolty, this is too funny.

I always wonder about the projection of racism that you get from the Left. They'll use racial epithets at whim and claim it's only what the Liberals are thinking.

Can I remind the person who signs himself "Wanker" ;)that the White Australia Policy was an artifact of the working man's Socialism of the late 1890s - 1900s to avoid having to compete with cheaper Indian, Chinese, and Kanak labour.

As it so happens I've met a young Venezualan in Australia on a student exchange and think he'd be an asset if he DID choose to move here.

Blah blah blah PeterB, what about you're HERO Pauline hanson, she would'nt be HAPPY with you extreme rightards letting BROWN PEOPLE aka SPICS in now would she, if "SPOT" and his ilk do want them in, its probably only to exploit them and hire them for 10cents an hour doing labouring like "SPOT''s" redneck Yankee buddys do.

Go kick some Abo's why dont you.

Anonymous 7:17 AM & 8:47 AM,

I grade your trolling effort a D-.

Pitiful and utterly valueless other than to score an own goal for your leftist ideologues.

The effort appears to be no more that the internet equivalent of lighting a paper bag full of steaming dog shit on a neighbours doorstep. You know? Something ten years olds do.

I therefore recommend that JF moderate those posts back onto the ether.

Sorry Spot, I know I shouldn't feed a troll but.....

Anonymous, why do you assume that Pauline Hanson is a hero of mine? Why do you think I would have a problem with "brown people"?

Do you not see an irony in supposing the only value of these people to me is as cheap labour i.e. the very reason I cited as the origin of the White Australia policy to begin with?

From your words I think that you are an easily angered person and may feel a little guilty for your own racism and read the same issue in to other people's actions.

Wow, while I'm typing what I thought was a reasonable response our friend let's loose with invective.

Can you actually string an argument together without cheap abuse or is it just that the pubs been open for a while?

Of course this has distracted us from the original issue that Socialist governments just keep failing, and yet people feel it's always worthwhile to try it again.

So is anyone running a sweep on how long Chavez will ast and where he will go once it all goes pear shape? Not suere about time frame but I'd be guessing Iran at this stage.

Junior dated a lovely Venezuelan girl last year. Hard working, religious parents etc etc. Apart from the usual South American addiction to that stupid game of socker, they was good people.

Yeah, yeah yeah - I am "footballerist". I judge people by the code that they follow. "Wanker" clearly follows badminton obsessively.

That's OK Peter, it's Friday night and the end of another hard week holding the line against insanity.

We're all entitled to a cold beverage and the occasional typo.

As for Chavez, Iran is always possible – if it hasn’t been turned into a car park for the UAE by then.

I’ve always seen Chavez retiring in the US though, running an E-Bay business in ponchos, llama wool knits and the like. Married to an ageing Californian Leftist, with greying pony tails, selling T-shirts featuring a younger, trimmer Hugo.

But then maybe I’ve had one too many as well.

Night buddy, your efforts are appreciated...

Thanks for this JF. I had no idea.

Reports about "occupation" appear in the media ALL The time, but they are only about Israel. Similarly, all the supposedly anti-occupation leftist groups, who constantly vilify Israel, would happily give a rimjob to Chavez and the Chinese Communist governments.

I endorse the idea of bringing in Venezuelan immigrants and also believe we should actively attract non-Muslims fleeing Muslim countries. It's fascinating talking to refugees who fled communist countries and prospered here. Trendy university students with Daddy's Visa card really don't understand what they are promoting.
