What Happens in Libya...

Possible understatement of the year:
A Libyan student who sexually assaulted seven girls and women in Melbourne has been jailed for more than five years.

Almahde Ahmad Atagore, 28, had been in Australia only a month and was having trouble adapting to the Australian culture when he committed the attacks, a court heard.

Atagore, who is a Muslim, was upset and sexually aroused at the way women in Australia dressed and behaved, the Victorian County Court heard today.
Here's some more cultural nuance:
His youngest victim was just 13.
The whole 13 year old thing sounds vaguely familiar. The Holy Prophet Mohammed married Aisha when she was 6-years-old and consummated his marriage with her when she was 9. FYI, he was 54 years old at the time.

Must be a cultural thing.

This was followed by more understatement and a breathtaking display of political correctness:
Sentencing Atagore, Judge Margaret Rizkalla said she accepted there was a link between the cultural issues, along with Atagore's depression, and the offences. "It seems you were very ill prepared to deal with cultural differences," she said.
A point apparently missed by whomever gave him a visa to study here.

Update: Professor Bunyip points out that the judge has form.

From the SMH "Atagore, who is a Muslim, was upset and sexually aroused at the way women in Australia dressed and behaved, the Victorian County Court heard on Tuesday."

Sexually aroused at the way women dress?

I'm tipping feminists won't touch this one. Muslims and Western feminists are bosom buddies for some strange reason.

Marie Antoinette was 12 when she got engaged to Louis 16th, and 14 when she married him.

Must be a cultural thing.

The mother of Henry 7th (England) was 12 when she married and 13 when she gave birth to him.

Must be a cultural thing.

Cleopatra was 10 when she got married for the first time.

Must be a cultural thing.

Isabella of Valois was 6 when she married Richard II and 9 when he died. Must be a cultural thing.

You racist right wing pinheads who chant this Mohammed-was-a-pedo mantra don't even know the history of your own European tradition.

Muhmar,

First off, there aren't billions of people in the world trying to live their life in exactly the same manner as your mate Moe.

Secondly, when Isabella was six, she married King Richard II as part of a political attempt to make peace. Weird by today's standards? Yes, but let's be clear - they didn't have sex. Do some research.

Nice try though.

In an age where someone's typical life expectancy was in their twenties, it was not uncommon for people to get married, and give birth at an age we would regard as young.

Judaism celebrates the "coming of age" and the transition to adulthood at the age of 13 for boys, and 12 for girls.

However in that you've mentioned a 13 year old, there is quite a large difference between a girl who has reached puberty, and a six year old who has probably just learned how to talk.

Again, nice try.

In 2011 - you know, the present, there aren't too many monarchists trying to emulate their history by running around marrying schoolkids. Whereas, in the Islamic world, child marriages are still very common.

Any attempts to reform the practice are met in the typical manner when someone tries to drag Islam out of the 7th Century.

Notorious pro-Taliban Islamist clergy in Bangladesh, Mufti Fazlul Haque Amini has threatened to wage jihad in the country if the government will pass any law banning child marriage.

Louis XVI - Not a Prophet or religious figure.

Edmund Tudor - not a prophet or religious figure.

Cleopatra - Not a prophet or religious figure

As pointed out, Isabella and Richard II didn't even consumate their marriage.

You're right, all these people would be guilty of statutory rape, but it's irrelevant, since no one uses them as examples to emulate.

Dan is specifically using Mohammed because he is considered in Islam to be the most perfect human in history and worthy of emulation.

Who says, "I believe Edmund Tudor is the most perfect human in history and I will emulate him in every way". ?

It's a ridiculous argument.

You git.

No one is claiming that Louis the XVI's life should determine our own age of consent laws.

No one is claiming that Louis activities somehow diminish the responsibility of modern rapists.

Sadly, there are many Muslims who are arguing this about Mo.

"Must be a cultural thing."
I'd be interested to know who told Muhmar of these things, since his apparent culture background indicates he would not be cognisant of history as such.

Cheers
