Canadian professor Jan Veizer is something of a climate change sceptic: he buys the warming part of the argument but insists carbon dioxide is not responsible. He thinks extraterrestrial factors such as solar radiation and cosmic ray variations need to be investigated as the primary contributory factors. He apparently kept his ideas to himself for quite some time. Why? "I was scared," he says. Being a heretic is no picnic.
