NEW WORLD CRISIS: DIET

Tim Lang is London University's resident food expert and a consultant for the World Health Organisation. Not surprisingly, Lang and his team of researchers want large food companies to conform without delay to WHO nutrition guidelines; the cost be damned:
The authors said: "The findings of this report suggest that the world's food companies are not yet fully engaged with the seriousness and urgency of this transformation.

"Companies should be wary about doing the minimum or presenting a few hurried initiatives in self-promotional terms.

"A lukewarm response from food companies to the enormity of the public health evidence amassed by the WHO and researchers risks engendering some cynicism."

The team said the cost of change could not be used as an excuse - as even the smallest firm studied had a turnover five times the WHO's annual budget.
Considering Lang, and his London Univeristy and WHO colleagues, don't have to concern themselves with the little matter of making a profit, their lack of concern is understandable. Maybe if people were a little more concerned with what they eat they might cut back on food or eat right, or both, when their arses gets to be the size of small cars. It's a personal responsibility thing.
