WOMEN THE FRUIT PICKERS

New Scientist reports:
The long-held notion that girls prefer pink while boys prefer blue may hold some truth, suggests a new study. And moreover, there might be a biological basis for why women prefer pink – or at least more reddish colours than men, say researchers.

The authors of the new study say their findings support the theory that colour vision evolved in humans in part to help females spot ripe fruit such as red berries.
So human gender roles evolved early on: women foraged for food, which they could do while looking after the children, and men hunted. It's the way nature intended it.

The concept of evolution is referred to at the beginning of the statement but the end of the statement assumes nature's final result is "early on", this contradicts evolution. From "early on" to present, humans have adapted to a changing environment and roles have evolved accordingly.

Today life is much more complicated than just finding berries and feeding a screaming infant cro-magnon. Modern women have earned equal rights and, as a result, have equal demands. Women have evolved to be more than capable of surviving independently in our modern world and to boot, it seems from this study, they have superior sense of colour. I guess it's the way evolution intended it ;)

Up until now I thought women prefer white. How could appliance manufacturers have gotten it so wrong?

When my baby daughter was about 1 year old, I took her to buy some shoes. The shop assistant brought out a white pair. My daughter looked bored and attempted to wriggle away. Then the shop assistant said, "Oh we also have them in pink", and opened a box to show me. "OOOOOOH!" said my daughter, and instantly proferred a foot for me to put the shoe onto. I never really believed that thing about girls preferring pink until that moment...
