U.S. warship's peaceful mission

The U.S. military is uniquely able not only to project power worldwide, it can also provide assistance anywhere it's needed:
Nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan arrived off the coast of Japan Sunday to help with relief operations there.

According to the US Department of Defense the 97-thousand ton aircraft carrier, which was scheduled to participate in a Korea-US joint maneuvering exercise this month, was immediately dispatched to Japan to support the Self-Defense Force by providing refueling operations for the country's helicopters and transporting troops to disaster areas.
Go America.

I've always liked this story, frequently received by email:

There was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break, one of the French engineers came back into the room saying, 'Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the Boxing Day tsunami victims. What does he intend to do, bomb them?'

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: 'Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?

The presence of a nuclear powered warship off Japan will cause Dave Sweeney of the Australian Conservation Meltdown to go into meltdown.

To see why go to Tim Blair's blog and read about deranged Dave under the heading "BEFORE AND AFTER".

Dan that story is a doozy. Thanks.
I will pass it on many times.
Take that, America-haters.
